Gamification
I think games for learning are a great idea but the games have to be easy to do and fun for the students. I think some of the games and topics we go over are easy to understand but sometimes the iPad's do not work with the programs and makes the games more frustrating then fun. Finding a game that works in the classroom is always a good idea cause it gives the students a break from the normal teaching lesson. I personally wish we were in a computer lab since a lot of these programs are tough to open and close so often and remember where I currently was. On of the first things we did was to create a avatar of ourselves. This is something that is fun and the students can use to identify with themselves playing the games. Here is what I created.

I completely agree with you that games are fun for the students. The IPads can be frustrating especially when you have to switch back from Puffin and Safari. I would prefer to be in a computer lab too! It would make things so much easier.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. However I do think it is good to be exposed to the iPads and learn their ins and outs. Sometimes it is good to step out of your comfort zone. BTW - I am writing this post from my iPad. I try to use it as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteI agree that a lot of times the iPads make the games, especially the one we are playing in class, extremely frustrating and much more irritating than fun. I definitely agree being in a computer lab would be better! Regardless, I think it was cool to learn about all the things you can do with gamification in the classroom to make it fun yet informative for the students.
